Our Review of the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 infant car seat

The Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is the latest, most stylish and luxuriously padded infant car seat yet from the children's comfort and safety experts at Peg Perego. Designed in Italy for children up to 30 lbs and/or 30" tall, the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is an eye-catching infant seat that enhances your child's safety by allowing him or her to remain in a rear-facing car seat for the first year or longer.

In addition, for this new 30/30 version of the Primo Viaggio SIP, Peg Perego redesigned the side impact system to be larger and more accommodating for bigger kids, and strengthened the frame and base components for an even more durable infant car seat.

BENEFITS for MOM & DAD

This stylish and safe new infant car seat from Peg Perego provides your baby with a super-safe place to rest and ride while he or she grows to 30 lbs and/or 30" tall. Not only is it safe (and attractive), it's easy to install with or without the base, using either LATCH connectors or a vehicle's safety belts.

For convenience and mobility in and out of your automobile, the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is compatible with all Peg Perego strollers.

Installation

Like most infant car seats, the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is a two-part car seat, including both a click-in carrier and base that installs in a vehicle with either LATCH or seatbelts. The base is fitted with a handy level indicator to assure you have the proper angle of installation. The carrier unlatches from base with one hand, and locks back in with a single push and an audible click. The carrier may be installed in any vehicle without the base by following the handy belt-guides.

A simple adjustment knob eases you in attaining the perfect angle of installation. Extra bases for the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 are available for quicker transitions from one family vehicle to the other.

Convenience

The Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30's click-in base system makes for quick ins and outs, allowing you to detach the convenient and ergonomically designed carrier from the base or stroller seat with just one hand. The carrier itself provides the simplest & safest means of transporting an infant - carried by hand or clicked into a compatible stroller. The different adjustable components of the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30, such as the one-handed height adjustment for the 5-point harness, are clearly labeled and easy to operate.

The enhanced weight limit of this 30/30 infant seat means that you can take advantage of these benefits for longer than you could most infant car seats, which typically only work to 22 lbs.

BENEFITS for JACK or JILL

The #1 benefit for children riding in the new Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is the safety of riding in a rear-facing infant seat "rear to a year" or up to 30 lbs. It's comfortable too, lined with deluxe padding and soft microfiber fabrics that breathe well and clean up easily. Even the 5-point harness and enhanced side impact protection are padded for additional comfort, and adjust to accommodate your child's growth.

Comfort

The Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 comes with a soft, removable plush pad for infants. This insert helps even the smallest babies remain securely harnessed and comfortable. There is also extensive padding beneath the insert, on both the seat and along the harness straps.  The entire seat is wrapped in soft, stain resistant Comfort-Dry microfiber fabric that breathes well and cleans up easily. In addition, the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is fitted with a large sun canopy for shade.

Safety

  • Meets or exceeds all NHTSA standards
  • 5-point safety harness
  • LATCH & Seat belt installation
  • Enhanced seat frame for better strength and durability
  • Exceeds most stringent side impact safety tests
  • Certified for use in automobiles and aircraft

COMPARISON

Car seat safety experts recommend that children ride in a rear facing car seat for as long as possible. Yet there remains only a select number of infant car seats capable of securing a child past 22 lbs.

Besides the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30, the Chicco KeyFit 30 will keep your child in an infant seat until 30 lbs. With a 32 lb weight limit, the Graco Snugride 32 promises to hold 97% of 1 year olds.

We bought this seat for our son before he was born, and from the minute we got it, we just loved it because it was so pretty! The quality was evident right away.
It easily fit our son at birth (10 pounds), and when we were putting him in it to take home from the birth center, our midwife took a good look at our car seat, and was so pleased with it that she bought one for her grandchild the following week. She told us that most car seats are not as easily adjustable nor have as much head support as the Primo Viaggio. Upon further inspection, I've found this to be true, especially about the head support. The Primo Viaggio truly cannot be beaten in this area in my opinion.
This seat is comfortable and safe. Our son rode in it when we moved cross country when he was two months old. This seat functioned exceptionally well on that long drive. It installed equally well in my husband's old F150 as it did in my new HHR. It also snaps easily into our Peg Perego Aria stroller for use as a travel system, which is handy for if we stopped somewhere while our son was asleep, and did not want to wake him.
When our son outgrew it, we ended up loaning it to a friend who had been using a cheaper seat for her baby (and that seat broke, which is why we loaned her ours) and she was astounded by the quality of the Primo Viaggio compared to what she'd used in the past. She used it until her baby outgrew it. Our seat has now been used for two babies, and it still looks new!
This is a top quality seat. The installation is very simple. The adjustment is simple. The use of it is simple. There is nothing I don't like about this seat. We will be using ours again for our next baby (we have a few years left before it expires) and if for some reason we couldn't, we'd buy another. Once you use the Primo Viaggio, there is no other infant seat.

Wonderful Car Seat

We have been using this car seat for the last 10 months. The seat is easy to use, cleans well, and looks great. Our daughter is very comfortable in the seat and falls asleep easily. The straps and height effortlessly adjust even with one hand. Yes the seat is heavy but I cannot complain knowing my daughter is safe. We also purchased the Valco runabout with the car seat attachment and the Viaggio fits wonderfully in it. The only con I can think of is the price and while it is a bit much it is worth having peace of mind that my daughter is safe in the car.

Great Car Seat!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Edmond, OK Date: November 22, 2009
We've been using this car seat for over 8 mths. We researched the safest car seats and this one was on the top of the list with the side impact protection. Yes, it is heavier, however, it's because of the safety technology. We feel much better knowing that our child is riding in a safe car seat that happens to be heavier, as opposed to a car seat that does not offer the SIP 30/30 and happens to be lighter. We also purchased the skate stroller which allows us to just snap the car seat into the stroller attachment without disturbing our son. It also gets high marks for style! Our only complaint would be that Peg doesn't offer car seats for toddlers.

Its All About Safety

Reviewer: Anonymous , Miami, FL Date: October 19, 2009
This car seat holds upto a 30 inch or 30 lb baby, therefore logic will tell you that this is going to be a big infant car seat / carrier. My son has always been in the 95% and he was in it until he was 13months old. When you buy a car seat, its about the safety and comfort of your infant, not of you. This carseat's fabric is great, we live in Miami and this car seat isn't any warmer then the others but does look very luxurious and very plush, without being made of velvet or microsuede which is very warm. Not the easiest to strap in but combined with the Peg Perego Pliko 3 its great. Plus if you read the description it tells you how much the seat weighs, so you can't complain about it. Most infant car seat only go upto 22 lbs, so they are smaller and weigh less and you outgrow it sooner.

Heavy and huge!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Potomac, MD Date: July 29, 2009
Title says it all - this thing is extremely heavy and bulky. Forget about it if you have a smaller sedan - it only fits well into a SUV or minivan (I have a 3-series BMW and it doesn't fit). It gets an A+ for looks, but a C- for utility.

Heavy & Sweaty

Reviewer: Lyndsey , Edmonton, AB Date: June 12, 2009
I have been using this seat for almost 3 months and am now shopping for a new one. This seat is WAY to heavy and bulky! My son is only 13lbs, I can't imagine trying to carry him in it when he is at or around 30lbs! My other complaint is how much he sweats in it. He is soaked after 10 minutes... To the point he seems to dislike car rides because he's so uncomfortable. On the plus side, this car seat is very attractive, I have had numerous compliments. = 1 star Safety = 2 stars

Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP infant Seat - Great!

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , Boise, ID Date: August 25, 2008
We loved ours. Easy to strap the baby in and worked well with bases we had in each car. I didn't notice the weight, but I am male. We also purchased the Peg Perego Pliko 3 which was a life saver. I could take the baby out of the car and drop it into the stroller without having to wake them up and get my grocery shopping done. It was a sad day when baby outgrew the infant carrier.

elegant!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Houma, LA Date: March 17, 2008
The limited edition 'Paloma' cars seat was very impressive. It does appear substantially larger than the regular Primo Viaggio (which I previously owned and LOVED), however it really was no different for me to carry around and transport. I loved the ivory leather accents rather than the fabric. I was also very impressed with the additional side impact support offered. I will definitely need a snuzzler until my newborn grows a little, but it is worth it because my babies are very large and chubby...the smaller version of the car seat was too cramped and caused them to sweat. This one has a very light support around the baby that breathes much more than the older models did. Great seat! Worth the extra $.

The perfect infant seat!

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , Fort Lee, VA Date: March 02, 2008
I purchased this seat for our second child, replacing an out-of-date Graco Snugride. I could not be more pleased with this product. It combines the best advances in safety with a stylish design. My newborn sleeps the whole time she is in it. The latch base is very easy to install, with push-button release latch connectors similar to Britax, and has an adjustable "foot" attachemnt for leveling, so no more rolled towels or pool noodles are necessary. I also like that the leveler is built into the base instead of the seat, so you know the seat will be positioned right on the first try. The five position strap height adjuster means that it fits her just right even as a newborn. Another major factor in my decision to buy this seat was the side impact protection, a feature I have not seen on other seats. The carrier snaps in and out of the base easily. I am very happy and would definitely purchase this product again.
