Our Review of the JANÉ Indy Plus booster seat

JANÉ Indy Plus Booster carseat is a one of a kind booster seat that combines a belt positioning system with a unique reclining base that secures to your vehicle's lower LATCH anchor points. In addition to this distinctive safety feature, the JANÉ (pronounced "Ha-ney") Indy Plus provides a full range of customizable comfort adjustments, from a reclining seat and backrest to adjustable side and head wings.

The JANÉ Indy Plus booster car seat is truly extraordinary. Lined with impact absorbing EPS foam and built on a reinforced aluminum chassis, the Indy Plus safely and comfortably secures a child from 30 to 80 lbs. Thanks to its unmatched adjustment settings, the Indy Plus works with kids of any shape and size, adapting easily to their body type and preferences.

The closest comparison to the JANÉ Indy Plus would be the Recaro Start. The Start is a first-class, plush booster seat that is built on a great frame, and adjusts to maximize your child's comfort. However, the Recaro Start does not recline like the Indy Plus.

Q: What makes the JANÉ Indy Plus Booster so unique?

The base of the JANÉ Indy Plus Booster has a very novel safety feature: a retractable, rigid LATCH attachment system in that allows you to lock the base into place without having to wedge your hands into the seat crack abyss to find your anchor points. Once secured, you can move the base of the Indy forward or back, and recline the seat as your child likes it.

See page 10 of the JANÉ Indy Plus manual for more information on this unique LATCH attachment system.

The seat of the Indy Plus Booster has a fast and easy to use recline adjustment as well. You simply pull forward on the handle at the front of the thickly padded seat and you can adjust the angle to one of three different positions. The custom comfort possibilities do not end there, however.

A: Copious Creature Comforts

The JANÉ Indy Plus Booster provides boys and girls of all shapes and sizes with custom comfort, thanks to exclusive adjustment settings for the arm rests, headrest, and side wings. Not only is the height of the headrest easily adjusted, but two knobs on the side of the backrest allow you to expand or draw-in the wings of the head and backrest . . . providing a perfect fit, quickly and easily. The net effect of this total-body adjustment system is added side-impact protection without making your son or daughter claustrophobic.

You will be amazed by the quality of the plastic and fabric components of the Indy Plus Booster. The ventilated, stain-resistant fabrics and thick padding are top notch - and it's very easy to remove and toss them in the wash when you need to.

Bottom Line: We must admit, we're extremely impressed with the JANÉ Indy Plus Booster. It is pricier than many booster seats, and relatively heavy, but the LATCH attachment system for the base, aluminum chassis, and abundant adjustment options make this an all-around-outstanding booster seat.

As a belt-positioning booster, the Indy Plus isn't as easy to install as most others - which require simply threading the seatbelt and buckling. There is a a learning curve to properly installing and using all the features of this seat, but with a little practice you'll have it down in no time . . . and your kid will thank you.

Fantastic carseat

Reviewer: Anonymous , the Netherlands Date: June 06, 2008
I Love this carseat. we live in the netherlands and unfortunatly there is no such thing a 'High weight limit harnessed seat' So my 4 year old (5 in 2 months) has to use a boosterseat. She is secure and safe in this seat, just like her 7 year old sister, the seat adjust so very great to fit the children, the side wings are adjustable, tight for my youngest daugher, and my oldest daughter has room to grow. The fabric is great, easy to clean, and very comfortable for my girls. This seat replaced my Maxi Cosi Rodi SPS & Maxi Cosi Rodi XR, that I didn't like.

Jane Indy Plus

The seat is solid and installs very easily. The manufacturer should figure out how to secure the headrest so that it doesn't pop out when lifted by it. It's very hard to get it back in.

Very Nice

Reviewer: Kaci , Idaho Date: March 20, 2008
I appreciate the peace of mind I have with my son riding in this booster. My son is happy with it as well; he finds it comfortable and thinks it looks cool. I had no trouble connecting the LATCH in my 2007 Toyota Corolla. The seat fits well. My one complaint is that my son finds it difficult to tighten the seat belt after buckling himself in. Not impossible, just not easy. I have never used another booster seat, and thus can offer no comparison. Overall I am very pleased.

Best booster seat I've tried but...

Reviewer: Anonymous , Shaker Heights, OH Date: March 01, 2008
...I could not get the LATCH to engage in my Ford Escape. I'm not sure if the booster was defective, because my anchors are easily accessible. The total adjustability of this seat makes it the best I've tried (among Britax, Compass, Graco). This is a European seat maker (made in China, though) and it appears they've got a newer model out in the European market. But I was thrilled with this one's features and was very disappointed to return it!

Great Product!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Chicago, IL Date: February 24, 2008
I am very satisfied with this product. We got a new car and I wanted a car seat that didn't slide around all over the place every time I took a turn. I feel like my four year old is more secure. The only thing that I have found to be an issue is that my very opinionated child is irritated that the arm rests are not usable, burried under the wings and too short or far back into the seat. Otherwise we are all very happy with this product. Our new car is the Volvo XC90 and it is a little difficult to get the seat in and out because of the way the latch system works but since we have a very portable Compass B510 in my husband's car (a year old and but filthy.....washing it doesn't help, fabric is not forgiving, scotch guard if you buy it) so I am OK with it. The Jane is not so large that I have had to give up the third seat in the middle row, which surprised and thrilled me. If you are familiar with this car it has a built in booster that I use to transport my little one's friends and its use has not been compromised. I like the wings, their placement and depth, sleeping in this seat is easy and a huge plus for us. I did a ton of research and took my child all over town to try different seats and this one seemed to be the only one that met all of our requirements. My daughter is no waif so the size and comfort were critical, she is 50lbs and 43 inches tall. It is my hope that this is our final car seat purchase for this child....we shall see!

Booster with Latch!

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , Kent, WA Date: January 24, 2008
Our Tall, skinny 4 year old daughter, had outgrown the Britax marathon. We didn't want to move her into a booster, but didn't have a choice. For travel we chose the Compass 510 for the compactness, light, and ease of shipping. While in Hawaii with the Compass, our daugther announced that she hated it. She could not get comfortable to sleep. When she did fall asleep, someone had to hold her head. I found the Jane Indy Plus Booster used the latch system just like the Britax Marathon did. It is heavier than most boosters. The aluminum frame would not be good for travel and checking purposes. The booster is very padded and comfortable. The booster is adjustable in the torso length, so it will grow with her. The wings for the head are fully adjustable, she can sleep! Yeah. This booster is the only one available to recline. The seat has 3 settings. The wings for the torso sides are adjustable, perfect for the tall skinny child. The booster was a little hard to install. It took 2 adults to get the latch system to secure on each side. Once you see the green indicator, the booster is installed. The recline feature is a little tricky. Once you find the recline seating for the booster, leave it. I would say that it is not easy to adjust on a daily basis. My daughter is not able to buckle her self. It does take an adult to secure her for every car ride. We like this, we know she is in. The booster does not move around when the car goes around a turn. The latch system is very tight and secure. We find this booster to be a great replacement to the Britax Marathon. I would have preferred to keep her in a 5 point system longer, but she is too tall. The booster is a little expensive, but worth the safety features.

Reviewers need to rethink their thoughts

5
Reviewer: Cherie , Edgewood, MD Date: December 03, 2007
It's so unnerving to have someone unqualified make ASSUMPTIONS about a car seat/booster that are untrue. Another reviewer wrote about a weight maximum in effect with this booster seat allowing it only to be tethered until the child reached 48 lbs. This is NOT the case at all and I'm upset that no one caught this before it posted. The LATCH system in cars is designed to be used until a child reaches 48 lbs. The reviewer was correct in this, but forgot to take into account that this factors in the weight of a car seat in the equation, most weighing less than 20 lbs. (if you're still with me, that's a combined weight of about 68 lbs on the latch connectors) This booster seat weighs in at 17 lbs. The weight of your child rests COMPLETELY on your vehicle's seat belt, NOT the Latch connectors. It wouldn't matter if you put a 100 lb child in this seat, you would still be correct in installing it with LATCH since the only weight on the LATCH connectors is that of the seat itself (17 lbs). Jane made a magnificent advancement to the marketing of booster seats and it's rough to see their name tainted by someone who doesn't know what they are talking about! For those interested in keeping their child in a 5pt harness as long as possible, consider the Britax Traveller or Regent, or for those with less space, the Sunshine Kids Radian 80 are all equipped to maintain 5pt harness until at least 80 lbs.

Love this safe seat

Reviewer: Britt , Seattle, WA Date: November 22, 2007
I LOVE this booster seat. If you put this next to a Turbo Booster you'd be amazed at the difference in quality and sturdiness. This seat is comfortable, has recline, and the oh-so-amazing latch. Not only is the latch super simple to use but because the seat belt holds the child only you can leave it latched way past the normal weight restriction. I love that and how solid the frame and child surround features are. I wouldn't go with anything else and am planning to get a 2nd one even at this price.

Answer to my prayers!

Reviewer: Kathy Shelby , Fairfield, CA Date: October 08, 2007
My grandson is 4 1/2 years old and I have always been upset when he fell asleep in his car seat and his poor little head flopped forward. I felt it was very uncomfortable for him and also dangerous in the event of an accident. We decided to buy this car seat to see if it would help and the very first long ride we took we found that is is AWESOME! We reclined his seat and he slept comfortably with his head nestled between the upper "wings" of the seat. We have a Ford crew cab pickup and had to remove the head rest so it would recline properly, but that was no problem. The only drawback to this car seat is that it takes some force to pull the reclining handle. But we figure as it gets used more it will probably get easier to pull. It won't matter if it never gets easier to pull - the fact that his head is comfy and safe in this car seat is all that matters!!!
