Our Review of the Graco ComfortSport convertible car seat

Metropolitan on Clearance for $118.99! Regularly priced at $144.99. Save $26 (18%)

The Graco ComfortSport is a well-priced convertible child car seat, with all the key features you'd expect, including a 5-point easy-to-adjust harness, a two-piece harness tie (chest and crotch), washable fabric, and a indicator that lets you know if you've installed the seat safely level. Various "soft goods" options are available in the different models, ranging from no extra soft goods (Prague) to the Metropolitan's detachable head support, harness covers, and toddler pillow.

Why buy the Metropolitan version instead of one of the less expensive seats? For about $40 more, the Metropolitan has more storage options, better "soft goods," and GracoPedic foam. A new addition to certain Graco seats, Memory Foam forms to fit your child, cradling and supporting them. The foam doesn't ever get indented or worn down - it bounces back day after day, to provide ultimate comfort and fit. In my opinion, it is worth spending the extra money for these perks, but the differences aren't super huge - most customers will probably do just fine simply choosing the color they prefer.

Mediocre

We are very disappointed that we spent $100 on a seat that we expected would last us until our child is 3 or 4 years old. I was satisfied with the seat even though we had some slight strap issues when she was a newborn. now she's 10 months old and we need a new carseat because it can't handle her height rear facing. she's almost at the top slots and the more her shoulders are above the holes the more strap issues we have. This car seat will NOT work if you plan on extended rear facing a child to the weight limit. My daughter is only 60th percentile on height and weight, so it's not like she's huge or anything. Now we have to go shell out more money for a Britax so that she can stay rear facing longer than a year. We could have spent that in the begining and not wasted our money on something that we could have spent towards the Briax in the begining, next child we will be going straight for Britax

Okay seat

First of all, this seat is definately not the top of the line. It is quickly outgrown, but if you know that and are saving for a bigger forward facing seat, such as a Radian, Regent, Frontier, or Natulius, it's not a bad buy. We bought it, didn't like the uneven tightening, bought a Britax Decathalon for one car and a Marathon for the other. But we kept this seat and sent it to grandma's. Well, now we have a need for a third seat for work, but didn't have the money yet to shell out for a new seat. He has almost outgrown the seat, but he does still fit. This seat has just come in handy and it is comfortable. Not the best, but not the worst ever. It's comfy and not an insanely bad seat if you have another primary seat.

we purchased this seat a little over a month ago, and as soon as i took it out of th box xi could tell it was not very good. the way the straps hook up in the back mack them uneven on our child. it is next to impossible to get installed correctly and it is very poor quality. the cover barely stays on the seat. i would return it but i already threw the box away. we have a Maxi-Cosi in our other car and it is very nice, i would highly recommend spending a little more and getting that one.

Better for forward facing only

Great buy if you want to only use it for forward facing, but I had a really hard time adjusting the harness straps when she faced the rear. You have to pull down on the strap and the seat is up against the back seat so I always ended up hurting my hand in the process.

Great car seat!

We own two slightly different versions of this car seat and love them both. It is extremely comfortable with the pediatric foam and our son loves riding in it. It was very easy to install with the LATCH system and a bit harder with just a seat belt, but not too bad. It is also very easy to adjust the straps. We are very happy that we spent the extra money to get some of the added perks to make it more comfortable as we take a lot of long road trips. Best of all it gets great safety reviews.

Good carseat

I have been using this carseat for 6 months and I really like it so far. It fits nicely in my car (I drive a sedan) and my son seems very comfortable. I was hesitant since we had problems with the straps on our Graco infant carrier, but so far so good. We have not had any problems with the straps. They are even and do not get twisted. I also found it easy to install.

Disappointed...

Reviewer: Nancy , Gainesville, FL Date: June 06, 2007
I bought this seat for my 2 1/2 year old (31 lbs.) because his seat was 7 years old. I didn't even put it in my suburban. The cover wouldn't stay on in the front and when I tried the toddler in it, the straps would not tighten evenly. It appears to be quite comfortable, but not very functional. Hence, I am returning it--finding something else will be a challenge.

Comments from The Staff:

Starting off on a good note, I am glad to hear that you had got rid of your old seat after so long. It's recommended to stop using the seat after its six year expiration date. What I am sorry to hear, is how much trouble you had with the seat before even putting it in your vehicle. But finding a replacement shouldn't be a challenge at all, that's what we are here for! We would be more then happy finding you a seat that best suits your needs, if you want just call and ask for me even.

I dont recommend

I have been using this carseat for just over a month now. I really like the actual seat and so does my 1 year old but the problem is the straps. They are terrible. They are never even and very difficult to position. The buckle feels very cheap to me as well. I would not buy this seat again and would not recommend it too anyone. Its a good design for the seat but the straps...terrible.

Love this seat

Reviewer: Anonymous , Syracuse, NY Date: April 04, 2007
I just purchased this seat a few weeks ago, and love it. I had purchased the Britax Marathon because I had originally liked the higher weight limit and it is supposedly a higher rated seat. However, upon getting it I was concerned that the seat seemed very shallow and did not have a lot of depth in the seat and the sides. It did not seem to have the side protection of other seats (sides were shallow). Also, the crotch strap seemed short and I saw it becoming an issue getting the belt connected and also an issue when she gets bigger. I did some research and purchased the Graco Comfort Sport and I am returning the Britax. Much better in terms of protection for safety and also it seems she will not outgrow it as soon as I saw her maybe not even making it up to 65lbs. The Comfortsport goes up to 40 lbs. but I also decided that after that I may want a regular booster and may not want/need the 65lb. limit anyway. Why spend $269+ when you can spend $79+ (we got the basic Comfortsport) and get a better seat? It was easy to install and the straps seem fine. The padding also seems comparable to the Britax and seemed superior to other types of seats I saw in the store. Overall great buy and I would recommend.
