Our Review of the Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 convertible car seat

  • The 2007 Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 Convertible carseat now has Energy Absorbing EPP Foam

The folks at Eddie Bauer came up with a highly versatile convertible car seat that truly grows with your child. With an 80 lbs. maximum weight capacity, the Eddie Bauer 3 - in - 1 may be the only carseat you?ll need to buy. The  is at first a rear facing infant seat, then a forward-facing toddler seat, and finally a belt-positioning booster . . . all ?in-1?.

Q: What makes the 3-in-1 so exceptional?

A: The ease with which you can adjust the seat features to best fit your child.

Changing the 3-in-1 from an infant car seat to a toddler seat and then to a belt-positioning booster seat requires only the simplest adjustments. When your baby becomes a toddler you?ll need to remove the infant insert and pillow, and as they grow you will need to change the shoulder harness height ? which does not require rethreading ? but beyond that there really isn?t much you?ll need to do to get maximum use from your Eddie Bauer 3-in-1.

The Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 car seat is a do-it-all safety seat designed to grow with your children. We?ve been selling them for a while and have received a number of satisfied reviews, and the Eddie Bauer styling isn't too shabby either. The 3-in-1 is one of the first of its kind. There are other convertible carseats available, but none convert to a booster seat.

It is important to note that the maximum harness weight for the Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 is 40 lbs. After your child is 40 lbs. or more, the 3-in-1 can only be used with your vehicle?s seat belts as a standard booster seat. The Sunshine Kids Radian 80 and Radian 65 are two recent additions to the convertible carseat category worth investigating. Radian convertible carseats are a bit more expensive, but built on long-lasting aluminum frames ? and they?re quite narrow and fold up for easy storage. Loved the seat

5
Reviewer: Heather , Houston,Texas Date: October 22, 2007
I bought this seat to use when I had my cousin. I researched and researched and finally settled on this one because of the weight limit being so high. She loved it as did I, the only problem I had was the buckle, it's like a puzzle so a little bit more difficult to buckle than some of the other seats but other than that it was a great seat for the time that I had it. Shortly after I bought it my car burned to the ground and I can't see spending that much again on a weekend carseat

Forward Facing?

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , Toronto, ON Date: October 02, 2007
I am very happy with the seat - it looks sooo cozy for my daughter to sit in. My daughter is almost one but not even close to 22 lbs so I am not sure if I can turn it to face forward on not at 12 months of age....

Comments from The Staff:

Thank you so much for the review! Its generally not recommended to move infants to the forward facing position until they are one year AND 20 pounds. Its always safest to keep them rear facing as long as possible!

Best Car Seat AVAILABLE

5
Reviewer: Kimberly Lopez , Colorado Date: August 01, 2007
I have had the Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 car seat for almost 3 years. I love how you can wash EVERYTHING and I don't have any trouble putting it back together. My family calls it the Cadillac of car seats and I agree there is plenty of space for my son and I plan to get my newborn one also! I recommend this product to everyone I talk to that is having a baby!

Leg Buckle

3
Reviewer: Julie , Chicago, IL Date: June 13, 2007
I have this car seat and overall I like it. The straps to twist all the time which is annoying. The one thing I'd love to know is how to make the buckle on the seat between the childs leg longer? It is so short and I am often times pinching my little boys legs.

converting to a booster

4
Reviewer: Steven , Stockton, CA Date: May 01, 2007
I really enjoy the car seat and my daughter loves riding in it. It is very easy to get my 18 month old in and out of but as she gets bigger, I am going to have to convert the seat into a booster and the instruction manual doesn't explain it, and I just don't know to do it. How do you convert the carseat into the booster when the time arrives?

Comments from The Staff:

Hi there! Page 12 of the instruction manual has how to convert and adjust for the booster seat mode. Hope this helps!

How to install

3
Reviewer: Tiffany , Queens, NY Date: March 24, 2007
I love the car seat but it is the hardest thing to install. I have a problem with it sitting firmly in one position. Everytime I make a turn it shifts. If anyone has any suggestions please help.

Comments from The Staff:

I'd recommend taking the seat to your local police department or fire station to have a CPS Tech install it - just to be on the safe side.

Stuck with this?

1
Reviewer: Jessie , Clatskanie OR Date: March 23, 2007
I was purchased this carseat as a baby shower gift from an aunt who thought it was the best thing ever. Well, it didn't fit rear facing in my car. I tried to return it and was told I couldn't becuase it had been opened and the box destroyed. Thanks to baby shower guests. So I had to buy a little carrier seat to use until my daughter was big enough for this one. Well, since then I have tried to start using it and have had nothing but trouble. Infact I took it apart to clean it the other day and now can't get it back together right for the life of me. Instruction manual is almost impossible to understand. Also, seat does not recline correctly. Gets stuck upright and then wont latch in reclined positition. Overall, I hate it and will never buy another Cosco product again!

Comments from The Staff:

I'm sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble with your car seat! I'm not sure if you bought the car seat from us, or from another retailer - I'm sure all retailers have similar return policies - products being returned must be in original packaging, with all warranty cards, etc, still with the product. Especially with car seats, we certainly wouldn't take back anything that appeared used, because we wouldn't know for sure whether or not it had been in a crash.

The Eddie Bauer seats are definitely designed to meet a price point, they're not my favorite seats that we sell. They're very versatile, though - which is why we sell them.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. Give us a call if we can have the opportunity to ask you a little more about your situation, and recommend something that will work for you!

no good

1
Reviewer: carrie , encino, ca Date: March 14, 2007
I was told this was a great car seat. One full day with this car seat made me crazy. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter who has a britax marathon which I love. I also have 9 month old twins and it was time to move to the bigger car seat. I was talked into the eddie bauer by my mother in law because my sister in law loves it. The problem was this: neither one of them have nails and if you do you cannot get it open. I sat at Costco for 35 minutes trying to get one of my twins out and it seriously took that long. I had such a hard time. When your dealing with three kids you need things to be quick. I took those seats back and got 2 more Britex and was told that those seats eddie bauer) come back more than any other.

Comments from The Staff:

Hi there! Wow, I know that Costco (Eddie Bauer) car seats aren't the same quality as some of the higher price point seats, but I've never heard of it taking over a half hour to remove a child from the seat! I'm sorry you were so unhappy with this seat - but I'm glad to see that you found something else that will meet your needs.

Twisted Mess

3
Reviewer: Stacey , North Tonawanda, NY Date: January 21, 2007
I really liked this car seat at first, but little did I know what was to come. The straps continually twist and when you have an infant who is squirming and arching their back there is no time to fiddle with the straps. When it came time to put the seat in the fwd. facing position the manual was not much help. I couldn't get the straps/tethers where they needed to go. Everything seemed to be twisted, tangled and/or connected underneath the cloth. If you want to take the cloth off forget about it, I would rather buy a new car seat than have to worry about not being able to put the cloth back on after washing. It is very complicated, but if you have the time and patience to deal with this then this car seat is for you. My daughter seems to be very comfortable in it.

Comments from The Staff:

Well, I'm glad your daughter is comfortable in it, at least! When choosing a car seat, the most important things to consider are 1) Does it fit your child, 2) Does it fit your vehicle, 3) Is it easy to use/will you install it properly every time, and 4) Does it fit your budget. If this seat was not easy for you to use, then you should definitely consider something else. I've never heard this complaint about the Eddie Bauer seat - but everyone is different, and if this was difficult for you to use, you should consider something else. If I can offer you any assistance in choosing something more user friendly, please let me know! Thanks! - Christina@NicheRetail.com - Call Center Manager/Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician
