Our Review of the Cheeky Monkey Pac Back

The Pac Back by Cheeky Monkey Designs is quite possibly the BEST car seat carrier we've ever tested. Sure, we'll admit that when it first arrived here, there were a few raised eyebrows—could it really be comfortable to carry a big convertible car seat like the Britax Roundabout on your back? We tried it out with several different seats, and were pleased to find the answer is a resounding YES. The Pac Back is built on an internal frame system with heavy duty webbing, sturdy nylon clips, padded shoulder straps and hip protectors. Basically, it's the same sort of construction you'd find on a quality mountain backpack, and it's surprisingly comfortable to wear. It's also easy to clean—warm water and mild soap does the trick to remove dirt or stains from the carrier and the included storage tote.

If you travel frequently with small children and car seat in tow, the Pac Back is a must-have. If you've ever lugged a car seat, stroller, and carry-on bags through the airport, you will be amazed. It's especially great if you and the kids are traveling on your own. It takes only a few seconds to adjust the straps to fit, clip the seat in, and put the Pac Back on without help from a partner. The Pac Back will adjust to comfortably fit any size parent, and it will easily accommodate any FAA-Certified car seat or booster.

Note that the Pac Back is designed to carry a car or booster seat only; please never attempt to carry a child in a seat that's attached to the Pac Back.

SOOO worth the money

When I was in the airport alone w/ 21 mo. old daughter pushing her in the stroller with one hand and pulling our suitcase w/ the other, this was priceless. I walked around w/ that thing on my back and it was AWESOME! A few people asked about it too. I did have to watch out about turning around, so I wouldn't take anyone out though :) I had used our plethora of miles from our credit card and had gotten us each our own seat. I strapped it onto her seat in the plane and she pretty much slept from take off until we were about to land (CT to FL). I think having her in her own seat on the plane made all the difference. Plus we didn't have to rent a carseat for her on the other end.

straps too short

Reviewer: Anonymous , Columbus Ohio Date: November 22, 2007
The top/bottom strap was too short for all our car seats. We have 3 different car seat/ booster seats and could not get the strap around the top/bottom to close. It was short by inches. I did try everything, going between the seat and base etc, but could not use it. I was very disappointed. Car seats Eddie Bauer Summit, Britex Decathlon, Britex Parkway none of them fit.

This made trekking through the airport with two little ones possible. It is easy to use and store away, and comfortable. It is definitely worth the investment.

Must have for traveling families

This is an absolutely wonderful product. After using a carseat bag that didn't work I wasn't going to spend more money on a bad product so I borrowed a friend's Pac Back and LOVED IT. I had to get our own before flying again. It is really the best way to manage a carseat for air travel. The only downfall is being aware of the swing radius. My husband and our three-year-old managed to run into each other a couple of times.

Great for travel

I used this while traveling alone with my 2 year old daughter. I was able to move through the airport, and security very easily with two free hands. I would highly recommend this! Also make sure you try attaching it to your car seat prior to traveling. It is very simple to use, but takes some adjustments the first time you use it.

A must if traveling with a car seat!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Menlo Park, CA Date: June 21, 2007
I was planning a plane trip with my two toddlers (ages 16 months and 28 months); my husband wasn't going to be with us on this trip so I was going solo. I was quite concerned about getting through the airport with two youngsters, two car seats and a large carry-on bag with snacks, activities, etc. This pac made carrying a car seat so easy! It was comfortable, easy to snap the car seat in and out of and allowed me to have my hands completely free. Many envious travelers with young children asked me where I bought it. The airport was a breeze: kids were in a double stroller, carry-on bag was underneath, one car seat was balanced on the stroller canopy and the other car seat was on my back in the Pac. I couldn't have done it without the Pac. I will never travel again without it!

Great for travel!

We bought this for our first family vacation with our 8 month old. We had bought an airline ticket for her and had a convertible Evenflo car seat. We also planned to gate check the stroller. With all our luggage and a baby to manage, we were so glad to have the Pac Back so my husband could easily carry the car seat. It left his hands free for taking turns pushing the stroller and toting our suitcases. At 6'2", he was able to comfortably carry the seat on his back, since the seat was a little heavy for my much smaller frame. He just had to be careful when he turned around -- he almost knocked me over with the seat a couple of times! We will definitely use this again. Ordering from Elitecarseats.com was wonderful and shipping was very fast!

Best for traveling alone

Reviewer: Lara , Newbury, MA. Date: March 15, 2007
I recently traveled alone by plane with my 14 month old daughter and managed a stroller, 2 suitcases, a diaper bag and a full size carseat. If it wasn't for the Cheeky Monkey Pac I couldn't have done it alone. I would highly recommend this item for any parent.
