Our Review of the BOB SUS stroller

The BOB Sport Utility Stroller (SUS) is another outstanding jogging stroller from BOB strollers. The BOB SUS uses the same frame as the BOB Ironman, but rides on thickly treaded tires and mag wheels, making it more suited for off-road running and jogging. The BOB SUS delivers with everything an active parent may need in a durable, trail-friendly jogging stroller.

The BOB SUS is a high-quality jogging stroller that rolls like a dream over any terrain. The SUS has top-quality safety and comfort features to benefit your child, and one-of-a-kind stroller innovations that help you get the most from every mile.

The BOB Sport Utility Stroller is for Moms and Dads who are Serious about Fitness

BOB jogging strollers are the only jogging and running strollers on the market that offer adjustable tracking. This unique feature minimizes drift while you push, eliminating the need to correct your course while jogging. With properly adjusted tracking, your stroller will roll in a straight line without veering at all. A jogging stroller that tracks straight is crucial for fitness minded parents who put their joggers to good use.

The SUS may be the most 'rugged' of all BOB strollers, riding on knobby 16" tires with mag rims, and a durable aluminum frame. Parents who like to head off-road need not worry about shaking their kid up at all, since the SUS also comes with a deluxe suspension system (with 3" of play).

Another distinct feature of the BOB SUS is its fantastic folding system. Simply pull the red levers and move the handles forward, then grab the lever / carrying handle beneath the seat and lift. The only jogging stroller that is easier to fold than a BOB SUS is the Baby Jogger Q Series.

The BOB SUS has Kid Comfort and Safety in Mind

Safety features abound on the BOB SUS, such as a 5-point harness, a handbrake for slowing down on inclined areas, and a parking brake. BOB strollers use a unique wrist tether system that attaches to the axle instead of the handlebar, so that if you fall while running the SUS won't go down with you. The footbrake allows you to keep the stroller from rolling away from you on an incline.

In addition to the deluxe suspension system, the BOB SUS has great passenger comfort features like a supportive and well padded seat with a near flat recline for total relaxation.

To top it all off, the BOB Car Seat Adapter makes the BOB Sport Utility Stroller compatible with these popular infant car seats:

Bottom Line: If you want a long-lasting and reliable jogging stroller that will hold up for years to come, you honestly cannot go wrong with the BOB SUS. Should you want a stroller even lighter than the SUS, check out the BOB SUS D'Lux with aluminum rims. The SUS and SUS D'Lux are functionally identical, but many BOB veterans assert that mag rims are more durable, but the tracking of the SUS D'Lux is a bit easier to adjust.

The BOB SUS, BOB SUS D'Lux, and BOB Ironman are three of the very best jogging strollers we carry, and the differences between them are largely a matter of personal preference. If you expect to do a lot of off-road running, the Sport Utility Strollers are the way to go. If you prefer getting your workouts on paved streets or tracks, check out the BOB Ironman with its thinner road-ready tires.

Another BOB stroller option, the BOB Revolution, uses the same mechanics as these jogging strollers, but uses a smaller swivel wheel up front, making it much easier to manage on city streets or indoors.

Good Stroller

Reviewer: Greg , Addison, IL Date: August 13, 2008
I should start with a disclaimer... this is the first jogging stroller we've owned. That said, I wouldn't mind this to be the only jogging stroller we'll own. I was a little worried about how jogging with a stroller would affect my training. I even planned on running with my wife again (who runs a bit slower than I do) to compensate for the extra weight of the stroller. Surprisingly, at just a little slower than my normal training pace, my heart rate is about the same as without the stroller. Granted, our little one is only 8 months and just about 20 lbs., but the stroller moves so well and is so smooth that I can hardly tell I'm pushing it. The included sun shield seems to do a pretty good job at keeping the sun off of our little one, but we run mostly on a shaded path, so the sun isn't that much of an issue anyway. B.O.B.'s customer service is fantastic as well. The stroller was delivered without one of the tracking screws. I contacted their customer service and had the tracking screw a few days later. Also, great job by JoggingStroller.com for getting the stroller (and subsequent rain guard) to us lightning quick!

I spent a lot of time comparing jogging strollers. We bought the BOB SUS and love it. You will not be disapointed at all. It tracks great, is easy to turn, compacts nicely, and it jogs and walks great.

I really enjoy this jogging stroller. It is easy to run with and my son loves it. I wish it could be made smaller without taking the wheels off, but I would always tell people to buy this stroller

If ONLY....

If only the front wheel could be interchangeable with a swivel wheel, that would be AWESOME. I just bought this particular stroller (SUS) today and I LOVE IT, my baby is 4 months and I also bought the infant car seat adapter and it worked wonderfully, HOWEVER, I did manage to have a bit of a difficult time turning (there are minimal turns on the running path I took), but I was thinking it would be THE BEST OF THE BEST, if the front wheel could be interchangeable to a swivel when needed. THINK ABOUT IT B.O.B people, I would buy it :) Are there any tips out there on how to turn it without stopping my pace running?? Oh and I read on another review that the foam handles was bothersome, I am going to buy some workout gloves so maybe that will help to get a better grip and not get blisters!

Overall great

Overall a great jogging stroller. I rollerblade and run behind it and it has great maneuverability for a fixed front wheel, which I was originally concerned about, but decided to go with fixed because of the price difference. Plenty of clearance for leg movement. Shocks are great. Rear tire break is solid. The safety leash is a must. Two draw backs...Won't fit in my trunk without removing wheels (however, back tires are easy to take on and off) and second, the cable from the front break runs behind the handle bar and is a little annoying.

This is the second jogging stroller I've ordered from you and I couldn't be happier. The strollers are terrific and I couldn't believe how quickly they were delivered. I've already recommended your company to others. Keep up the good work.

Comments from The Staff:

Thanks very much Jean, really appreciate the kind words. We're not perfect, but we certainly try hard.

great on bumpy trails

My husband and I love this stroller. We have used it since my son was 4 months old with the Britax car seat. Now he is 8 months and sits in the seat proper. He still isnt comfortable in the seat without a towel rolled to support his head. He sleeps in the stroller with no problem with the towel. We use the stroller for long walks along bumpy off road trails and the suspension is a great advantage to the other strollers we looked at for this purpose. Definitely happy we went with the fixed front wheel for these walks - it makes it easier to push over rocky terrain. We use a lighter weight stroller for errands as the BOB is a bit big to maneuver through shopping aisles.

Okay but some areas of disappointment

I was originally attracted to the Bob stroller from seeing a mother of two use one in an airport. She told me she had the "jogging" version but after I ordered the Sport Utility, it was clear she must have had the Revolution but still used it off-road as the Sport Utility is big and difficult to travel with. While it is great for jogging, it is not as compact as I would have liked and I realize this is my fault as the dimensions are listed on the web. The front wheel makes it much larger than the revolution. I also hate that it does not lock into position for storage, you need to hook a strap around the moving parts and then store it. I have to refer to the instructions each time to figure out how to do this- frustrating. What would be nice is if the revolution/Sport Utility were interchangeable and you could buy the smaller wheel for traveling etc. I also bought the travel bag for the Sport Utility which was described as a carry on but clearly is not - it is huge just like the stroller.

Perfection - a joy to use!

I researched v. thoroughly before purchasing the BoB SUS. We needed an all-terrain stroller that could handle uneven hiking trails. Something sturdy that would survive being hauled out several times a week, about an hour at a time. At first, I had a tough time narrowing down my options because the various manufacturer/retail sites assume you?re either a mall crawler/city dweller or a jogger. But I wanted something tough, quality, rugged that could handle trails, but at walking pace. If that?s your situation, too, this BoB is for you. It?s awesome! It runs beautifully, is a quality product, and has many well-thought-out design features. First of all, I love the Pacific Blue color! Second, the canopy is huge. I live in Florida, so it?s important to us. This canopy does the job beautifully. I disagree with the reviewers who said it?s not big enough. Any bigger and your kid couldn?t see out! For heavens sake, if you want your child totally covered just buy a separate sun shield. Also love the weather flap. I don?t use the window on top of the canopy like I thought I would, because I can spy on my baby through the weather flap. Folding and unfolding is so easy and, yes, the wheels do pop off very easily as well. We have a small Saturn sedan. We just collapse the BoB, load it part-way into the trunk, pop off the front wheel, then slide it all the way in. No problem. I have it down to a fine art now of about 30 seconds. Unfolding, it just pops open almost like magic! Every time I load or unload it, I rejoice that someone out there put so much thought into the design! The nubby tires are great, but do require pumping sometimes. As other reviewers have said, they run over rough terrain, tree roots, sand, long grass etc. like a dream! The rear foot-operated brake is fantastic. Easy to use ? just kick it on and off - but very tough and secure. Was nervous about the fixed wheel, but it?s no problem. Likewise, the non-height-adjustable handlebar hasn?t been a problem either. The design is such that you can adjust your hold by shifting hands from the top of the handlebar to the sloping sides, for a little variety. So it?s not an issue for me. But, then, I?m 5ft7in and my husband is 5ft9in. I can see why taller folks might not be so comfortable. The basket is very useful. We even put our 18lb Jack Russell Terrier in it a few times when she?d overdone it in the heat. She seemed to enjoy the ride! Drawbacks: this stroller does not support babies well. My 10-month-old sits all slumped in it, although she doesn?t seem to mind. In fact, she loves riding in the BoB and watching the world go by. She usually ends up taking a nap in it too. So it?s not a problem, exactly, but do be aware that they are not kidding when they say this is designed for infants no younger than 9 months. Another thing to be aware of: the harness adjusts easily, but the red harness loops could be a choking hazard. Read more: http://baby411.typepad.com/babybargains/2007/08/is-bob-stroller.html. Suspension squeaks sometimes. A few drops of bike lubricant fixes that. One complaint: I had trouble getting the mudguard attached. We ended up taking the whole thing to our local bike shop. They said one of the screw holes had been drilled incorrectly. They used a smaller screw. Problem solved. But still, that should not have happened! I also found the brake pads tend to rub against the tires. Our bike shop guys said the tires are poor-quality. I also felt that using the handbrake made them stick even more. That annoyed me at first. But it hasn?t been a problem because I never really use the handbrake. If I?m going downhill, I tend to just rely on the wrist tether. But I do think the integration of handbrake/brake pads/wheels are the one thing that needs tweaking. My only other wish would be that it locks when folded. Despite these issues, I still give the BoB SUS five stars. It looks so cool and it?s just a pleasure to use.
